why we do the things we do

this was taken off Jeremy's blog. hope he doesn't mind... he always seems to have a way with words.

Why we do the things we do (28th Aug '06)

Being in love is.. exhilarating. Exciting. Highly enjoyable.

But sometimes tiring.

There are some days where it's all you can do to control yourself. You don't want to say something you don't mean, merely born of frustration. Once it comes out, you can't take it back. And neither of you are better for it.

There are some days when you're dead tired; exhausted, but unable to sleep. You want to, but you can't. You need to take care of your partner.

And then there are some days when you're just doubtful. You question the longevity of what you have. Does forever really exist? Or are we here until the next forever comes along?

Then you realise.. it takes more than just 'I love you'.

You need sacrifice. Compromise. When you know you'd rather be doing something else, but you put that need aside.

You need understanding. Everyone has off days... Days when you're snippy and grumpy. You don't need to add to that.

You need trust. You need to believe that you ARE the one; there's no one else.

And you need to know that this really may not be forever. But damn it, you're gonna give it your all for as long as this lasts, because your partner deserves at least your all.

But above all, when all that's stripped away, you realise just why you do the things you do for her.

Because you love. And are loved.

And that's worth everything.
